About Sharon Saint Don, Metalsmith

Sharon Saint Don jewelers bench and workshop

Heirloom quality, handcrafted, solid 925 sterling silver & gold jewelry since 1998.

Welcome to my shop. I am Sharon Saint Don, a metalsmith with 30+ years of bench experience in Port Townsend, Washington. I hand-fabricate solid 925 sterling silver and gold jewelry designed for daily wear and built to last a lifetime. My work focuses on clean lines, architectural structure, and hand-hammered textures that serve as timeless wardrobe staples.

I am a working full time artisan and I hold a BFA in Metal Design from the University of Washington in Seattle (1998), but my relationship with metal started back in 1991, working in industrial fabrication with bronze, steel, and iron. My commitment to this community runs deep; in 2015, I served on a select delegation presenting Etsy research on the micro-enterprise gig economy to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. I have also served in many organizational roles and creative businesses all of my life. Whether fighting for independent makers in D.C. or working at my own bench, I approach this business with the serious dedication of a lifelong crafts-woman.

Before focusing entirely on jewelry, I spent over a decade co-owning a custom fine cabinetry and finish carpentry business. Working in large-scale construction teaches you everything about material limits and durability and now I am developing my own land and small studio, doing a lot of the physical labor myself.

I bring this professionalism and technical rigor to my small-batch jewelry collections, every single piece in my shop is hand-fabricated from solid silver and gold. Hand-hammering and forming work hardens these precious metals, giving the structural integrity to survive generations of daily wear.

I strive for a sustainable, low-impact studio practice and lifestyle. I work in small batches and source my materials responsibly, every piece is made using post-consumer recycled silver and gold from fair-labor practicing USA suppliers.

My studio is a small, resource-conscious space on the Olympic Peninsula near Seattle. A formative period studying in Rome for a quarter via the UW and backpacking through North Africa and the Middle East taught me the value of traditional, self-reliant fabrication techniques, which I still practice today. I am developing my property myself, hand-built my own tiny home and studio from mostly recycled materials. When not running my jewelry business I care for a half acre next to a second growth forest with a perimeter of native plants and thickets and an organic garden with plenty of berries and herbs to share with birds and insects.

My lifestyle is about simplicity, intention, and hard work. The balance between the physical construction of my home, the precision of my metalwork, and taking care of my land keeps me busy, grounded and realistic. When you buy a piece from my shop, you are supporting an independent crafts woman.
